The nights at the Whiskey,
Starwood and other spots on the Strip paid off with denim delinquent's
most celebrated issue, #5. Featuring a cover of Iggy, taken from a
postage-sized photo of the man, blown up, painted and then treated in a
photo developing shop, and including an actual band-aid stuck on Iggy's
cheek on each issue, this cover has been emulated by the great modern
zine "Black to Comm" and used as the cover for Bomp's Stooges CD, "Wild
Blood."
Reviews of performances of the Dolls, Iggy's nights out at the Whisky,
Blue Oyster Cult, Alex Harvey, Blue Cheer, Moby Grape, Redwing, and Kiss
are featured. An interview the 1974 version of Moby Grape, without
Skippy, is a big part of this issue.
Danny Sugerman's take on Iggy is featured on page two. He used a
pseudonym as he didn't want people to say, "ah he's just saying that
because he's Iggy's manager."
An interview during a wild night with Kim Fowley in his studio apt on
the Strip was also included, where he dug through his box of 45's and
threw classic pieces of plastic as we scrambled with mad delight to
gather our bounty.
Much of the content regarding our encounters with Iggy were enhanced in
the liner notes to Bomp's Stooges CD, "Califonia Bleeding" and featured
in Paul Trynka's excellent Iggy bio, "Open Up and Bleed." Paul
interviewed Jymn for an hour and used some comments in the same book. |
