In 1971, a good friend and
concert-going buddy, Mark A Jones, suggested we put out a rock and roll
fanzine to answer all those intellectual idiots who were writing reviews
of rock and roll music as if it were a scholastic exercise. He also
suggested the name, denim delinquent. So, we set out to do what we could
with very little in the way of pioneers to follow. We of course had read
Bomp! but we knew we could never be that good, so we went another
direction. We just celebrated the music, the times and goofiness of what
this crazy music did to oneselves. Plus, we didn't even dare think about
publishing anything that would be read by anyone outside of Ottawa. It
was our own local crazed music magazine.
The first issue was tentative, with an interview of a local 50's doowop
band, Bolt Upright and the Erections. Reviews of the Kinks and other
personal favourites were included. A quiet but satisfactory start.
